Puritans Devotionals
There are some awful “Christian” devotionals out there. A quick perusal through the Christian section of your local bookstore to see how self-absorbed and shallow the current market is. The titles say it all: Live on Purpose, Unshakeable, Too Blessed to be Stressed, or my favorite, Good Morning Jesus, It’s Me. If you only have time to read one page in the morning or evening, make sure it’s biblically grounded and Christ honoring. We’ve created this reading list to help you find faithful, Christ-centered devotional reading.

Voices from the Past

In this 2-volume series, Richard Rushing compiles daily devotional readings from his favorite Puritans authors. Both books cover an enormous amount of ground while serving as one of the best gateways to fall in love with the Puritans. In fact, that’s Rushing’s stated goal at the beginning of Volume 1, where he prays that these devotions will “open a door to the vast stores of treasure to be found in the writings of the Puritans and that it will stimulate further exploration of this rich spiritual inheritance.”
The Valley of Vision

“The Valley of Vision” is one of the Top-3 all-time best sellers by the Banner of Truth who just celebrated their 69th birthday in 2026. John Piper describes this book as a record of the outflow of their “deep heart of communion with God.” If you don’t know what to pray, this classic is a great place to start.

Compared to James Bell’s edition above, this new Banner of Truth paperback version packs a lighter punch, offering a quote a day instead of an entire page. Hence, if a page is too much, you’re without excuse!
